How many weeks does MMMS open across the year?
We follow the school term in line with the Department of Education Victoria, with each term roughly being 10 weeks long. We do not run lessons during public holidays.
Over the term holidays we continue to encourage students to engage with music with events, recitals and workshops, especially over the longer summer break.
Are you open on Public Holidays?
No we do not run lessons on public holidays. If your regular lesson lands on a public holiday that lesson will already be automatically deducted and removed from the portal.
Can I start lessons in the middle of the term?
You can start lessons anytime during the school term and the lesson fees will be adjusted to match your date of registration. During the term holiday break you can take a look at the trials page to see what lesson days and times are available for the upcoming term or drop in an enquiry!

When is a good age for my child to start lessons?
It's never too late to start, the younger the earlier they can begin their musical journey. At MMMS our recommendation is to have a trial when a student is around 4 to 5 years old, where they are developing their fine motor skills. There are strategies and music curriculums designed to teach students of all ages.Â

What skill level would I be or fit into?
At MMMS, we have a Muso's Mind levels and progression path that let's us understand the current musical proficiency of all our students. These levels and paths also give students an idea of where they are at and how to get to where they want to go.

What will my lessons cover?
What is covered in our lessons is partially dependent on your musical goals and musical proficiency. Our teachers figure out where our students are at now and what music they love and balance it out with essential muso skills that will lead to students knowing how to learn songs all on their own, with or without music sheet.

Do I need an instrument for my lesson?
Yes - you most definitely need an instrument to make progress in our lessons with home practise.
We do have instrument recommendations to help you select an instrument, along with the things to keep in mind with certain choices.
How much time do I need to spend on practise?
This depends on many different factors such as age, music proficiency, goals and other activities. Our tutors will consider all the factors and give a recommendation that is appropriate and achievable to the students.
The one recommendation that applies to all students is consistency. To get better at your instrument, then one thing you need is consistently showing up and playing the instrument. It's better to play everyday, even if the sessions are short than it is to find a 1 hour block of practise time, twice a week.
Will there be performance opportunities?
Yes - we plan multiple recitals of varying sizes throughout the year to cater to the students' performance experience. It can be a daunting experience, so we build up their stage confidence gradually.
Once you book in a lesson with us, we will guide you through the performance opportunities.
Will there be music exam preparation?
Yes - music exams are apart of our lesson curriculum, however, it's not the only main focus and goal for our students nor is it compulsory.
We do highly encourage students to sit exams and participate in performances opportunities at the school. There is the option to have a go at competitions, though that will depend on the students' goals.
