Beginner piano lessons at Muso's Mind Music School focuses on the students' understanding of the essential building blocks to music and piano technique. Students start off by understanding pitch through hearing and singing, rhythm through movement, keyboard geography and healthy piano technique through fun games.
Once our teachers can see that students have fully grasped musical concepts that's when students are introduced to note reading, as this allows students to easily associate the music symbols with music concepts they are already familiar with. Our approach is built on consistent progress and scaffolded learning so that students remain engaged without feeling overwhelmed and find lessons too difficult.
At Muso's Mind Music School, when students reach intermediate piano lessons our teachers begin to invite the student to participate in the planning of their own lessons where they may be asked to bring their own or create their own music in lessons. This is also the level where students can also continue pursuing piano examinations past the beginner levels to further refine their technique and performance skills.
Students often struggle to keep their passion and enjoyment for music at this level due feeling disconnected to the music and plateaued progress, so our teachers focus shift to developing perserverance and deeper musical understanding. Lessons focus on not only piano technique but also introduce students to music theory so that students and understand and engage with the music they hear and play at a deeper level. Practise strategies are also explored to help students effectively manage the rising difficulty of the music they play.
Students in advanced piano lessons at Muso's Mind Music School experience more of a collaborative lesson setting where teachers and students work together to set goals, plan the learning and develop students' self-evaluation skills. Students can also continue through the advanced grade of piano exams if they wish to do so. When a stage reaches the stage they are at the helm of their own learning and the teacher is there to help them explore the world of music.
At this level, students usually have a firm musical direction they wish to pursue and they work with their teachers towards those goals while continuing to further refine aspects of their piano technique, musicality and their musical ear. Students deep dive to their songs they are studying, understanding the harmonic progression and phrasing their melodies to allow them to shine. Our teachers also encourage students to explore their creativity through making arrangements of their music and coming up with their own musical ideas.
